The BC-5A series are state-of-the-art battery chargers that offer very high efficiency and low cost in a compact plastic DIN-rail housing. The chargers are designed to withstand high levels of disruption in the harsh automotive environment. The chargers are virtually indestructible, with protection against overload, short circuit, high temperature and reverse battery. Overload protection limits the current, not short circuit. Chargers with lockout protection will shut down in the event of an overload and will not be able to charge a discharged battery with its rated current. In the event of a short circuit or overload, the BC-5A charger does not shut down, but simply outputs the rated current, allowing a fully discharged battery to be charged. In the event of overheating, the charger will automatically reduce the output current and continue normal operation. The chargers provide automatic detection of the battery voltage. Thus, the same module operates at 12V or 24V without the need for manual selection, eliminating human error. The BC-5A chargers have an input voltage range of 170-305V, allowing use in most countries with nominal voltages from 220V to 277V. The rated output power is fully available over the entire 170-305V AC range without reducing the rated characteristics. The chargers offer a green operating mode. Green mode consists of reducing the operating frequency when the load is reduced. In this way, the chargers reduce their losses, helping to protect the environment. At very low loads, they switch to surge mode to further reduce consumption. The chargers feature very low power consumption in no-load mode, which again helps to protect the environment. The peak efficiency of the chargers exceeds 91.5%, which leads to lower long-term operating costs. For example, compared to a 24V/5A charger with an efficiency of 85%, an average load of 30%, and a service life of 20 years, the BC-5A will consume 600 kWh less electricity. This results in approximately $60 less energy costs per charger. A rectifier failure can control a relay or transmit the operating status to a control module that issues an alarm in the event of a failure.
