The DATAKOM AVR-40 voltage regulator is an electronic device that allows the generator to produce a fixed output voltage. The device has an open chassis, resin construction and is designed for installation in the generator terminal box. The device does not include moving parts; therefore, it is able to operate in conditions of strong vibration. The device measures the phase-neutral or phase-phase voltage of the AC generator and regulates the DC voltage supplied to the excitation winding until the desired voltage is reached. The device has a low-frequency protection function. The frequency measurement circuit continuously monitors the generator output and provides an output for low-frequency protection of the excitation system, reducing the output voltage in proportion to the frequency below a manually adjustable threshold. The nominal frequency can be easily changed to 50 or 60 Hz in the field by selecting the push-button link. The loss of sensitivity protection circuit stops excitation and protects the windings if there is no voltage at the sensor input. The excitation power is taken directly from the generator terminals. The minimum residual voltage required for ramp-up is 4 V AC. The output stage of the device is a half-wave thyristor output connected to a free-wheeling diode. The device is basically compatible with all brushless AC generators. A stability adjustment potentiometer is also provided for this. The ±3 V analog input provides external voltage regulation. The AVR has the ability to connect a CT to allow parallel operation with other generators equipped in a similar way. The overload protection circuit limits the output current to its nominal value, preventing the device from failing under overload or short-circuit conditions.
