The DATAKOM AVR-8 voltage regulator is an electronic device that allows the generator to produce a fixed output voltage.
The device has an open chassis, resin construction and is designed for installation in the generator terminal box. The device does not include moving parts; therefore, it is capable of operating in conditions of strong vibration.
The device measures the phase-to-neutral or phase-to-phase voltage of the AC generator and adjusts the DC voltage applied to the excitation winding until the desired voltage is reached. The device has a low-frequency protection function. The frequency measurement circuit continuously monitors the generator output and provides an output for low-frequency protection of the excitation system, reducing the output voltage in proportion to the frequency below a manually adjustable threshold.
The nominal frequency can be easily changed to 50 or 60 Hz in the field by selecting a click link.
The sensitivity loss protection circuit stops excitation and protects the windings if there is no voltage at the sensor input.
The excitation power is obtained directly from the generator terminals. The minimum residual voltage required for build-up is 4 V AC.
The output stage of the device is a half-wave thyristor output connected to a free diode.
The device is basically compatible with all brushless AC generators. For this purpose, a stability adjustment potentiometer is also provided.
The ±3 V analog input provides external voltage regulation.
The AVR has the ability to connect CTs to allow parallel operation with other similarly equipped generators. The overload protection circuit limits the output current to its rated value, preventing the unit from malfunctioning under overload or short circuit conditions.
