Why does grout crack and how to repair it?
– If the grout is cement-based, the cause may be inappropriate environmental conditions.
– Excessive water in the grout. Cracks occur due to water loss through evaporation, which in turn leads to a reduction in the grout mass.
– If the type of grout does not meet the conditions for laying tiles. If the width of the joints is more than 4 mm, regular grout will no longer be suitable, you must use a sanded tile grout.
– The base for laying tiles is not leveled or moves. This situation is often found in wooden houses, where the boards bend or are not fastened tightly enough. Even if everything is done correctly, most likely, changes in temperature and humidity outside will contribute to changes in the characteristics of the wood and, as a result, movement in the base, and subsequent repair of the tile grout.
– Too much load on the tiled floor (flow of people, carts, etc. - in stores, garages, warehouses).
