DATAKOM DKG-379 is an advanced DC generator controller for variable and fixed speed systems. It is available in 3 different versions as ANALOG DRIVE, POWER DRIVE and CANBUS DRIVE. The controller features a precise PID loop that provides precise matching of optimal charging characteristics, as well as protection against overvoltage, overcurrent, overspeed and overheating. The POWER DRIVE version provides a 7 amp DC output that connects directly to the engine drive or generator excitation winding without the need for a governor controller or AVR. The CANBUS DRIVE version connects to electronic engines controlled by the ECU, providing engine control, protection and instrumentation without additional sensors. ECU signals are displayed as text. All versions offer a 0-10V analog output for speed or voltage control. The fixed speed function stops the generator exactly when the batteries are fully charged, saving fuel and reducing maintenance costs. The device has accurate, fully isolated inputs for measuring battery voltage and charging current. It supports both positive-ground and negative-ground settings. The current is measured via a DC shunt placed on the positive or negative output of the generator. Generator start-up is based on the accurately measured DC battery voltage. Once started, the controller will perform an optimal battery charging cycle and stop the generator when the batteries are fully charged. The optimal charging algorithm ensures maximum battery life and minimum engine run time and fuel consumption. During the charging cycle, the unit monitors the engine speed (or excitation) to deliver the exact required DC voltage and current to the batteries. For electronic engines, CANBUS-J1939 speed control is available. The device has a PT100 type battery temperature sensor input. If used, temperature protection will allow for extended battery life in hot environments and faster charging in cold conditions. The controller is able to read the engine speed from the charge generator pulses or MPU. The device supports both standby mode of one genset and mutual redundancy operations of two generators. The device can initiate modem calls and send SMS messages in fault conditions via an external modem. The device provides a full set of programmable parameters. All programs can be changed using the buttons on the front panel. The device provides Modbus protocol, which is available both via RS-232 and via modem.
